In the year 2000, the Kitchener Rangers Scholarship Foundation was established. Donations have been made by the hockey club and its alumni to provide scholarships to both Kitchener Rangers Alumni and Waterloo Region High School graduates that are attending post secondary institutions in Canada, the United States and Europe.
In 2004, the Rangers announced that all scholarships from the foundation would be made in the name of Ivan Tennant, who spent a lifetime combining hockey and education. Ivan was the Kitchener Rangers Educational Consultant for 20 years and played a key role in establishing the OHL’s Education Consultants Committee.
Since 2004, the Kitchener Rangers Scholarship Foundation has awarded over $185,000 in scholarships in honour of Ivan Tennant. This year, we are happy to announce the awarding of over $20,500 in scholarships to 37 Graduates of Waterloo Region High Schools to bring the total to over $205,500.
Dave Tennant, Ivan‘s son and the Academic Advisor for the Rangers, joined the Rangers and the recipients of Ivan Tennant Scholarships on the ice prior to puck drop on Friday, December 30th as well as Kateri Galloway of the Rangers Scholarship Foundation Awards Committee.
This year’s recipients are: John Albrecht, Nicole Balzan, Sarah Barbosa, Matthew Burns, Tory Cable, Kyla Cormier, Jamie Cote, D’Arcy Shannon, Jeff Dinsmore, Alex Elliott, Alyssa Fisher, Carlie Foss, Matthew Guild, Derek Hanson, Hillary Kaufman, Derek Kutz, Melissa Lambert, Laura Levesque, Andy Liboiron, Laura Prange, Jennifer Psutka, Kirsten Quistberg, Scott Rederer, Colleen Reid, Alison Reinhart, Brian Reitzel, Colton Roe, Ryan Schulte, Rachel Schushack, Alexandra Seiling, Junghee Seo, Brent Thorne, Beverly Timmings, Anita Valeriote, Rachel Whitney, Tai-Juana Wight and Nicole Zablocki.
