Christopher Festarini made 32 saves for Niagara as the IceDogs shut out the Kitchener Rangers 2-0 on Thursday night.
The Rangers and IceDogs skated through a scoreless first period, with Kitchener netminder John Gibson making 13 saves and Christopher Festarini stopping all ten shots he faced for Niagara.
The goaltenders remained perfect through 37 minutes and 38 seconds before the IceDogs were able to find the scoreboard. Niagara forward Ryan Strome raced into the Kitchener zone on the odd man rush and snapped a shot over the shoulder of Gibson to record his 10th goal of the season.. Assists on the play were credited to Brett Ritchie and Broderick Kelly.
Each team fired 10 shots on goal in the second period.
Ritchie would lift the IceDogs to a 2-0 lead late in the third period, jamming a loose puck into the open side of an empty Rangers net to pick up his fifth of the year. Strome also collected his second point of the night with an assist. The second assist was credited to Mitchell Theoret.
The Rangers outshot Niagara 9-7 in the final frame and finished with a 32-27 overall advantage, but Festarini stood tall, picking up his second shutout of the season.
