Acquired by the Kitchener Rangers in the third round, 43rd overall in the 2009 OHL Priority Selection.

Fanelli was named co-MVP of the Rangers in 2012-13 after leading all defenceman with a +23 rating and recording a career-best 23 points. Fanelli was named Most Popular Player at the Kitchener Rangers Annual Awards Banquet in 2012 and 2013 and was recognized with the 2013 Jim McGeachie Trophy for Outstanding Team Effort.

Named team captain for the 2013-2014 season, Fanelli took home three awards at the Rangers End of Year Banquet: the Ted Scharf Humanitarian Award, the Herchenrader Family Trophy (Best Defensive Ability) and a third Most Popular Player title.

Ben is also the founder of Head Strong: Fanelli 4 Brain Injury Awareness and the author of the 'Keeping Head Strong' blog. In 2013, he became the first player in Rangers' history to earn the Humanitarian of the Year Award from the Ontario and Canadian Hockey Leagues.
