Acquired by the Rangers in the 1st round of the 2010 CHL Import Draft.

Rieder combines speed and skill to be a constant threat. He proved his speed at the 2011 Top Prospects Skills Competition when he recorded the second fastest skate, clocking in at 14.068 seconds.

A native of Landshut, Germany, he has represented his country three times at the IIHF World Junior Hockey Championship, and was the team's top scorer at the 2012 Division I Tournament, helping Germany earn a promotion to the top tier in 2013.

Rieder was drafted in the 4th Round, 114th Overall to the Edmonton Oilers in the 2011 NHL Entry Draft. In March 2013, Rieder was acquired by the Phoenix Coyotes via trade and signed a three-year entry-level contract with the team in April.

Rieder was honoured with three awards at the Kitchener Rangers Annual Awards Banquet in 2012 including Scoring Champion. He was also ranked second best penalty killer in the Western Conference Coaches Poll. In 2013, he collected his second consectuive Three Star Award and a second Blueline Club Trophy for Most Gentlemanly Player.

During the 2011-12 season, Rieder sat 10th in overall league scoring and 5th in league goal scoring. He also finished the 2012 Playoffs as the OHL's top postseason scorer.
